Upside Down T

ʇ is a t with its crossbar at the bottom.

ʇ

A t is a vertical stroke with a short crossbar a little below the top. Flip it and the bar falls to the lower part with the foot curling up: ʇ, U+0287, Latin Small Letter Turned T. The capital is easier because T is a perfect cross; turned over it becomes Ʇ (U+A7B1, Latin Capital Letter Turned T), a shape close to the ⊥ sign.

Where you will see ʇ

Historically ʇ was the IPA symbol for a dental click, which the Association dropped in 1989. Today you will mostly see it in flipped words and gamer tags, and it is one of the most reliably displayed of the turned letters. Because t is so common in English, nearly every flipped sentence will include it.

Good to know

Why is the capital Ʇ not always visible?

Ʇ is a fairly recent addition to Unicode, so older systems may show a blank box. Lowercase ʇ is older and safer.

All the flipped letters are listed on the letters page, or type a whole sentence into the upside down text generator.
